Hello there. Welcome.

I’m a medievalist, usually camped out in the early Middle Ages. Sometimes I stray forward in time, but anything after the twelfth century is a bit too modern for me.

This is my humble abode where I’ll share my thoughts, opinions, and most likely heretical conjectures on medieval history. I am not a trained academic…yet. My goal here is not to prove my worth as an academic historian. But rather, to share my passion for medieval history in a way that might make one who previously loathed history class to take a second stab at it. The study of history is quickly fading into the past. History departments are dwindling in size and stature. It’s crucial to reignite an interest in the past, lest we forget the tumultuous times that make up the foundations we walk upon. Besides, as one who breathes literature and story, I can say history is simply entertaining!

There are such intriguing stories found in the past, much to compete with the best novels and shows of our time. There is sagely advice, enlightening revelation, and weathered wisdom pouring from the manuscripts that are saturated in their historical contexts but can still aide us today. It was a time of such mystery, magic, and mysticism, it truly deserves our admiration. It was also a perilously harrowing reality, rife with many hardships, challenges, and sufferings. It behooves us to guard against a naive nostalgia or romanticism. While I’m a hopeless dreamer who clings to the wonder and whimsy of the world, I hope to share not just the narrative histories of the Middle Ages, but also explore the more complex and nuanced issues and intriguing eccentricities of the age.

I hope you like it here. I hope you learn something. I hope you walk away with an appreciation for medieval history.
